Mónica Alvarado, Sub Secretary of Mobility and Safety, Rosario, Argentina
Lauri Kattelus, Chair, City Board of Turku, Finland
Christian Specht Incoming Chair of the EUROCITIES Mobility Forum, First Deputy Mayor, Mannheim, Germany
Michael Glotz-Richter, Senior project manager for sustainable mobility, Bremen

The introduction and adoption of new mobility services come as a response to some of the challenges that cities are facing, such as rapid urbanization, economic growth, increasing road congestion, increasing pollution and changing mobility preferences. Emerging technological advances also open up opportunities for the future of urban mobility that allows for more convenient, efficient and integrated modes of transport.

In many cities a range of new mobility services such as car or bike sharing, ride sharing services, and Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS) concepts are becoming increasingly accepted. They are part of an incremental change in travel behavior toward a multimodal system that is less car-centric. Against this backdrop, the roundtable showcases how cities anticipate and respond to this change. Mayors and city leaders will share experiences of implementing sustainable urban mobility solutions; particularly new urban mobility services initiatives in their cities. What are the risks and opportunities as cities around the world explore innovative and ecomobile solutions to create livable cities?

Organiser:
MaaS Global

Meetup Leader:
Sampo Hietanen, CEO, MaaS Global
Piia Karjalainen, Senior Manager, MaaS Alliance
Jonna Pöllänen, Head of Early Markets, MaaS Global
This session will give you a deep-dive understanding of Mobility as a Service concept and new mobility ecosystems. Mobility as a Service is the concept of future transportation system and a long-term aim pursued within transport policy making is a change that would turn mobility into a service (Mobility as a Service or MaaS). Transport services are to be converted into a service package along the lines of the communications service sector meaning that instead of buying a car people buy all the transportation they need as a service package and operate it through a smart phone. Mobility will to a greater extent become a service in which physical mobility and digital services merge into a high-quality service that meets the users’ needs and various transport service chains work seamlessly together. This means a holistic change in the entire transport system and in the roles of the transport operators. During the session, there will be also an opportunity to ask questions from Meetup leaders. Hietanen is the founding CEO of MaaS Global, a fast-growing mobility company from Finland that intends to lead the revolution to change the 10 000 billion euro transportation sector. The company is backed by mobility giants like Toyota, Transdev and Karsan and is currently taking the world city by city. Karjalainen is a Senior Manager of MaaS Alliance, a non-profit, public-private association creating the foundations for a common approach to MaaS and unlocking the economies of scale needed for successful implementation.

Transport for Greater Manchester

Meetup Leaders:
Anna Craciun, Innovation Strategy Officer, Transport for Greater Manchester
Lisa Dale-Clough, Senior Policy Manager, Transport for Greater Manchester Sigita Zigure, Researcher, Manchester Metropolitan University
Solon Solomou, Researcher, Manchester Metropolitan University

This session will be delivered in two parts. The first part will unravel the various ‘flocking’ behaviors that CAVs might adopt with a particular focus on platooning of vehicles. The second part of the workshop will be a discussion on the way forward for policy and regulation frameworks, understanding how flexible these should be and how frequently should they be updated. The traditional approach is no longer adequate to new forms of mobility and transport services, therefore there is a need for a seismic shift in policy making and implementation.
